As a toy buyer, it's easy to become jaded when the Christmas list of every 6 year old around the country consists of the latest and greatest tech item, such as an Ipod, Wii or cell phone.  Whatever happened to kids wanting to play with toys?

Since I have been surrounded by toys everyday for the past 2 years, my Christmas list has changed a bit this year.  Here’s a sneak peak.

- The Transformers Voice Changer Helmet – So maybe it’s not your typical “girl” toy, but honestly, who doesn’t want to be Optimus Prime?
Island Princess Barbie doll – What can I say…I’ve always been a Barbie girl.
Kid Tough Digital Camera – So much easier to use than a traditional camera and if the pictures don’t turn out to your liking, you can just throw it against the wall.
Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader board game – A great way to brush up on useless facts that you used to rely on for success in grade school.  You never know when you may need to know exactly what a hygrometer measures, just in case a random game of science trivia breaks out among friends.

Happy shopping!

Be careful Danielle! Make sure you check out this article "Groups Release Guide to Toxins in Toys" before you give these toys to kids. There are many dangers in toys, as you know since Wal-Mart has been affected by the recalls.

Hi Danielle!  I just hopped over from Mark Collier's blog - who gave you a great review by the way.

Back to the toy thing.  I'm with you, girl.  I have a seven year old and the closest thing he gets with toys are Bionicles, which I faithfully buy at Wal Mart.  I've been looking for a Bionicle called Gedunka (sp?) I can't find the darn thing in ANY store.

That reminds me - would it be too pushy (on your part) to put links to the toys you talked about within your post?  Not for me it wouldn't.

Great work - these are great.  If someone had told me I'd be reading and commenting on a Wal Mart post, I never would have believed it.

Danielle- mine are with both, I have four children though so it gets a tad expensive. I'd love to know about any of your deals/sales going on with toys. :) As far as lists go, my girls are cheaper than my boys. My son's aware of all the high tech things and my girls are wanting Barbie or Hannah Montana. I do miss the days when it was teddy bears and barbie dolls though.

Thanks for your comment, Helga. We take toy safety very seriously at Wal-Mart. You might be interested in reading our holiday toy safety update which includes information about our Toy Safety Net Program.

Eliza, we've got some great deals on toys right now.  There are some amazing rollbacks on games now through Christmas - Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader for $10, Sorry and Clue for $7.50, Monopoly Pixar for $19.97.

Power Tour Guitar is a great toy for a boy, was $54.88 and is now $34.88.

Hannah Montana is crazy right now.  I highly recommend one of the singing dolls for $19.88 instead of a scalped ticket for $2,000!  Not quite the same experience, but it's a much better price tag!

Ivana-

I found a little information for you on the Bionicle that you're looking for.  It's always amazing to me how kids key in on all of the specific characters in these brands...that must make for some challenging shopping!

The Gadunka character you're looking for is out of stock online, so it seems you're not the only one trying to track it down!  The item number is #770699...if you call your local store they will be able to let you know if they have any on hand or coming in.  Happy hunting!

Danielle:

I already understood that Wal-Mart has a new plan to step up testing on toys, but I don’t understand how this can work considering the volume of toys coming in from China. Could you elaborate on the program, please?

Jonathan-

Toy safety is obviously the biggest issue we're facing in the industry right now and we are definitely taking it very seriously. There are multiple levels of testing that are in place at the supplier level, in factories, before product gets on a boat, and at store level. We will soon have additional safeguards activated in our systems as well. Add all of this to the legislation that we are hoping will be passed soon and the additional steps that we are working on at Wal-Mart, we feel comfortable taking the right steps. Keep an eye on Check Out for additional information on this later.
Thanks for the question.

Danielle
