Folks, been caught up in a lot lately, but have not forgotten about you all. Now that the National Hockey League season is officially over, I can shave off the playoff beard and get back to busines. In the brief time I was away, I had the opportunity to attend game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Mellon Arena in my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA with a fraternity brother of mine. Unfortunately, the beloved Penguins lost that game and the series. Congratulations to Hockeytown and their Red Wings. The Pens have a lot of young talent and I beleive that this will not be their last run at hoisting the Cup. So, that explains my absence and while not as compelling as Tiff's, it was nonetheless enjoyable. But that is not what we are here to discuss today.

Today's topic is football. Not just any type of football, but Electronic Arts' NCAA College Football 2009 on your consoles and portables. That is right, time to hit the gridiron. The game will be great, no doubt. EA always steps up on this long running series and this year will be no exception.

What we have in club this year though, is nothing short of spectacular. Sam's Club will be the ONLY retailer to offer OFFICIAL EA alternative cover images. What does this mean to you? Well, if you are like me and NOT a Razorback fan (almost illegal here in Arkansas, I still will not to that "wooooo pig" thing), you can put an image from a selection of images on YOUR box front at no additional charge. For my family, that means ours will look like THIS:

It, just does not get any better than this! We can "Cheer, Cheer for old Notre Dame" right on the box! Other options will exist for customization. LSU, Ohio State and others will be available at the Club. We cannot have every mascot option available, for example, my alma mater, the Duquesne University "Iron Dukes" are not an option. That still leaves a lot of great choices for you as a fan. This option will exist in all of our clubs with a Photo Center, which is the vast majority of Sam's Clubs.

This was a cool project on which to work with Electronic Arts. Our local team of Kasey and Mark did a great job in making this happen. We appreciate their hard work in making your Member experience a little bit better and more exciting. So, time to put the Penguin hats away and break out the Fightin' Irish hats. We can all cheer for the teams we like. Many of us will be able to customize the games we love with the teams we love at Sam's Club. Look for it at Sam's Club on July 15th!

I have a few other announcements coming, but need to lock down a few details... Stay tuned!

While not a sports fan (or an EA fan), this is a pretty awesome promotion.  I thought so last year when it was done for '08.

Reading this makes me believe it will be a Sam's Club only promotion, is that true, or will Wal*Mart have this as well?

Not a Razorback fan? Egads, what other profane material will be up on this blog? Living in Northwest Arkansas and not cheering for the pigs is tantamount to heresy.

As far as I know, it is Sam's Club only.  Should be a fun promotion.

Sorry Steven, but I do not see a future in which I am cheering for them. For me, it will remain Notre Dame and Penn State in college football win, loose or draw. It has been some rough years lately, but I am not jumping ship.

As for Pro Teams, it is the Penguins and Steelers. Not a baseball fan (since the strike) but if I had to make a choice, it would be the Yankees.

Thanks for the question, I do not think that Rocky D. Bull will make a showing on this list of options (Do not feel too bad, as I said the Duquesne University Dukes are not here either! That is my alma mater.). Here are the choices, my top 3, then every one else:

1) Notre Dame - Fightin' Irish

2) Penn State - Nittany Lions

3) University of Pittsburgh - Panthers (not a fan, but it is my hometown)

and the rest (in reverse alphabetical order, just for fun):

Wisconsin (Badgers), West Virginia (Mountaineers), Washington (Huskies), Virginia Tech (Hokie Birds), Virginia (Cavaliers), UCLA (Bruins), Texas (Longhorns), Tennessee (Smokey), South Carolina (Gamecocks), Purdue (Boliermaker), Oklahoma State (Pistol Pete), Ohio State (Buckey), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Rameses), North Carolina State (Wolf Pack), Nebraska (Husker), Mississippi State (Bulldogs), University of Missouri (Tiger), Minnesota (Gopher), Michigan State (Sparty), University of Miami (Hurricaine), University of Maryland (Terrapin), Louisiana State University (Tiger), University of Kentucky (Wildcat), Kansas (Wildcat), Iowa State (Cardinal), Georgia Tech (Buzz, yellow jacket), Georgia (Bulldog), Florida (Gator), Colorado (Buffalo), Clemson (Tiger), BYU (Cougar), Boston (Eagles), Arkansas (Razorback), Arizona State (Sun Devil), Arizona (Wildcat), Auburn (Tiger), Alabama (Elephant).

I think I got them all. Lots of felines. Here's to the Irish, the Elephant and the Sun Devil for having some exceptionally unique mascots!! Points for creativity :-)

OOPS, I did not get Ohio State right. Their mascot is Brutus the Buckeye not Buckey the Buckeye. My apologies. I tried to do my best from memory.

Grrr...the Bulls were only the #2 ranked team in the nation at one point last year...but I grew up a Tennessee fan and have met and pet Smokey before, so that'll be an acceptable substitute...

C'mon Matthew. We are giving you more choices than ANY ONE ELSE? At least you get the ability to make a selection in clubs with a photo center. This is a pretty cool thing. Yeah, I know, we do not have every team on this list, but it is certainly a great offer for our Members. Enjoy Smokey!
